The new year is still very young but I already have tons of plans and I want to share some of them with you, But first a little back story, to better understand my future plans. I started my ukulele journey about 3,5 years ago. Then about 2 years ago I ventured on Instagram and I am still very happy about all the support I get there. 2018 was all about getting the basics of the ukulele down. I focused a lot on learning all kinds of songs, playing and practicing regularly.
So I entered 2019 with the basics down and with already some original songs I had written. This was great and I wanted to focus more on ukulele and songwriting skills and also improve my singing. I am happy to say that all of those things happened last year and I can move into this new year, being really proud of what I have accomplished. Last year I also was booked to play at a ukulele festival for the first time and I realised, that this is actually something I want to do. I want to share my songs, my stories, my music, my art. And not just on a virtual stage, but live, and connect with people through my music.
So this is what I want to focus on in 2020. I want to share my stories through song. To do this, there’s some certain things I need to focus on and had to make some difficult decisions. What I need to focus on is writing songs, working on my songs and improving my ukulele skills and my singing even more. To do this, I will keep on working with my regular ukulele and singing coaches François and Manu (if you read this, I love having you both by my side, supporting me and enabling to express myself).
But I will also attend more songwriting retreats. This will help me to have time to just focus on me and my songs, get some new inputs and work with different people. And to get my stories out I also want to be brave this year and bring my songs to new audiences. You all know how much I love the ukulele community, but I feel like I need some different feedback, I need to get out in the real world and share my songs with people outside the ukulele community.
So here’s the thing: to do all this, I will not be able to attend as many ukulele festival as last year. I know I will miss out on a lot, but I feel like it’s more important for me right now, to start new and different adventures. Plus attending so many festivals is expensive and time consuming – funds and time that I need to allocate to different things right now.
There will be a couple of festivals where we can meet up, just not as many as last year. You lovelies know where you can always find me though and I am really excited to share my 2020 ukulele life with all of you.
