The Road to Oslo – Part 4 What to wear and what to bring?

As my first big performance on main stage at Oslo Ukulele Festival is approaching fast, I am getting a little nervous and trying to make sure I think of everything I need to bring.

So I tried to make a list of things I need to bring form my performance:

  • Ukulele
  • Extra Set of strings (plus necessary tools)
  • Batteries for pick-up
  • Ukulele strap (2x)
  • Tuner
  • Capo
  • Instrument cable
  • Merchandise (sticker, pins, business cards, postcards, tattoos)
  • Tripod
  • Powerbank
  • Setlist for stage
  • Glucose tablets for stage
  • Blood sugar meter for stage

This seems totally excessive, but I guess it’s just a standard and pretty low end stuff I need to bring. Some of you might wonder about the last two items on this list. For those of you who don’t know, I have Type 1 Diabetes. So I need to always stay alert and know about my blood glucose levels and be able to treat low blood sugars fast. I have no idea what my blood sugar is gonna do with all that adrenaline being on stage but at the same time working hard on stage. So I want to at least have the option on stage, to check my BG real quick, in case I start to feel weird.

Another question that came up was about my outfit. A couple of weeks ago I bought a super cute dress. It has a vintagey cut with a neckholder top. The colour is light blue with white swans on it. I’d really love to wear it, but I am not sure yet how the weather is gonna be. So I am also looking into some other options I have at home. I’ll probably bring 2-3 choices, so I am prepared and can act on weather and mood for the special day.

What are your go to outfits for the stage and what do you usually bring to your gigs? Let me know in the comments or drop me a line J

xoxo Nikky
