“Work in progress” was inspired by a conversation I had with my ukulele teacher. We sometimes get lost in conversations about random stuff (I promise, we do actually work on my ukuele skills as well – even if it doesn’t always show).
I don’t even know how we got into that topic, but somehow we started talking about how getting older changes you and calms you and how the people around us influence our behavior. We eventually settled on “all of us are just a work in progress”.
Two days later I went on a business trip to Leipzig, Germany. I brought my uke, cause I wanted to take pictures and maybe practice a bit in my hotel room. The theme of being a work in progress was still on my mind during my flight and the first line of the chorus and the melody popped into my head. So later that day I left the work dinner a bit earlier then most and started to write the song in my hotel room.
A huge work in progress when it comes to playing ukulele is playing barre chords (at least for me). I still shy away a bit and it’s something I want to improve and get more comfortable with. So I decided I wanted to stick with simple chord progressions, but played only with barre chords.
It might not sound like a lot to many of you. But things like that can still be challenging for me sometimes. But it also helps me grow and develop new skills – A work in progress.
Here’s a first draft of the song – as you know, it’s all a work in progress though 😉
xoxo Nikky
